Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 04/26/20

This week’s scripture is from John:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”   (John 16:33)

Though we can sometimes wonder why God allows our lives to be marked by trouble, we know that this fallen world can be a dark and troublesome place where we find ourselves struggling against the darkness and against the pain of suffering, sin, sickness, and death. Yet, there is a strange comfort in Jesus’ words acknowledging that we will have trouble in this world, for it reminds us that trouble comes from this fallen world and not from our Lord, for in Him, and Him alone, we can find peace from the troubles of this life. Try as we might we have not the power to overcome, but Jesus has overcome the world. He has defeated the darkness; He has triumphed; He is victorious, and if we are in Him and He is in us, then we too can overcome the world through Him, for in Him we have life and victory and peace. Let us rejoice and be glad, for we can have peace through our Lord Jesus Christ. What a great blessing!

May the Lord bless you today with an abiding peace.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
(Psalm 91:1-2,5-6)

Our world has been shaken. The foundations of the nations of the world have been shaken. Nations are reeling. Death stalks about the globe claiming its victims. The markets fall and people have taken to their homes to hide from the plague that spreads across the continents. As the numbers climb fear grips the hearts of the people. Our lives have been shaken. Our world has been shaken. We are shaken.

But the Lord our God is not shaken. God’s word is not shaken. God’s love for us is not shaken. God’s promises are not shaken. The Lord God Most High is still here with us. Let us call upon the Lord. Let us turn to the Lord and seek shelter in His ever-loving arms. Let us bow down and pray for He hears our prayers and He will answer us. Let us trust in Him who is trustworthy. Let us turn fear out of our hearts and turn our hearts back to Him, for the heart set on the Lord will not fear, for He will remove fear and bring peace to our hearts. Let us seek Him who ever seeks us and find peace in His promises for He cares for us. Let us draw close to the Lord and find rest under the shadow of His wings.

May you be blessed to seek the Lord and rest in Him.

Happy Easter! This week’s scripture is from Matthew:

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, [just] as He said.”     (Matthew 28:5-6)

He is risen, He is risen, He is risen! Thank God, thank God, thank God Almighty. Jesus Christ is risen; He is alive. He sacrificed Himself that we might be reconciled to God our Father, that we might know Him and the mercy of His grace, for He is the bread of life, the Holy One, the Son of God; He sealed the new covenant in His blood that we might have the forgiveness of our sins, that we might have salvation and eternal life. Thank you Lord Jesus. How blessed we are to know His love and the beauty of His grace.

May the blessings of the Lord’s sacrifice strengthen you as you follow in His ways.

This week’s scripture is from Ephesians:

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand [firm].” (Ephesians 6:13)

This is not the time to be separated from God. These are not the days to let Satan get between you and the Lord. We are not ignorant of the devil’s schemes, of his campaign of fear and discouragement, of his continual attacks against us and against our faith. These are the days to lean hard into worship and prayer. This is the time to put on the full armor of God and take up the sword of the Spirit, the sword of Truth, the Word of God, and to step into the gap and seal the breach. Let us not draw back except to regroup and renew our strength in the Lord. Then let us go forth every day in His strength and by the power of His blood to trample the enemy of our souls, to drive him away like leaves before the wind. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen.

May the Lord strength you in these days to worship and pray and stand firm.
