Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 10/30/16

October 31, 2016

This week’s scripture is from Acts:

Shield with cross“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?”   (Acts 4:25)

Our nation, actually the whole world, is raging right now in spiritual warfare. And the battle is raging in the hearts and souls of people everywhere, a great conflict between darkness and light. Yet let us always remember that God is sovereign, our Lord is always in complete control even when we are not, when the world is not. He is sovereign over all the earth and all that is in it. It is only by His word and His will that things happen, for He is God Almighty. He has complete authority; He has complete power. He knows the end from the beginning: He is alpha and omega. All that has happened, all that is happening, and all that will ever happen are part of His plan for the salvation and the redemption of His church and His people.

May your heart rise up and praise the Lord.

This week’s scripture is from John:

jesus_white“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”     (John 14:27b)

We are living in troubling times when many things in the world seem uncertain and the choices before us offer little comfort or assurance. And the future may not seem as bright as we once thought or hoped. Perhaps we are also experiencing troubles in our own lives and we can’t see if there is any light ahead. We may feel we are straining against the darkness and struggling to keep our head up. But the Lord is not troubled or uncertain, and He has not left us as orphans; we are not alone, for He has sent His Holy Spirit to be with us, to live in us. He has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of peace, a spirit of power, and a spirit of hope. Therefore, let us set our hearts upon the Lord and praise Him; let us turn from our troubles and trust Him who is faithful; let us trust Him who fights for us, the One who is always victorious.

May the Lord bless your heart with peace.

This week’s scripture is from Romans:

Warfare Prayer“We know that the whole creation has been groaning…” (Rom. 8:22 NRSV)

It is clearly seen in these days that the world, that nations, are locked in a titanic struggle between good and evil. It appears that the sons of light and the sons of darkness are taking their places upon the stage of the world. The children of God are under assault spiritually and physically, and in every other way, as they struggle to not be overcome by the rising tide of evil. Those who belong to evil have become bold in their boasting and blasphemies.

Yet the Lord is not unaware; He sees all that is taking place and He laughs as the nations roar and evil has its day, for His day is coming when none will be able to stand against His mighty hand and His word will cut the enemy down like grass before His righteous blade. Let us take up the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, and wield it against the dark forces that oppose us and our Lord. Let us call upon Him and pray; pray in His word; pray in power; pray in the Spirit; pray in His holy name.

May the Lord embolden you to pray, and keep praying.

This week’s scripture is from 1 John:

Jesus Christ -- Heinrich Hofmann“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”     (1 John 1:7 NKJV)

Jesus Christ, our Lord, is the light of God in our dark world, for He is the pure light that came from God that drives away the darkness and brings light to all those who live. If we know Christ as our Lord and Savior then we have the light that He has given us. Let us let the light of Christ shine within us and shine through us, for the light of Christ within us can destroy all darkness of sin, and the light of Christ shining from us can draw others who need to know Christ and His love and salvation. If we walk in His light then we have fellowship with all those who walk in His light, and how great that light is, for in that light the blood of Christ can cleanse us of all sin and darkness. So let us therefore come into the light of Christ.

May the light of Christ shine upon you and through you.

This week’s scripture comes from Colossians:

jesus_white“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”   (Colossians 3:13)

All who belong to the Lord have been forgiven their sins and trespasses by the Lord, by His sacrifice for us, by His blood, death, and resurrection. Some have been forgiven little and some have been forgiven much, but He forgave all. Let us therefore forgive those who sin or trespass against us, for the Lord commands that we do so as He forgave us our sins and trespasses.

Let no one say they will not forgive for the sin was too great against them, for if the Lord forgave those who killed Him, who whipped Him, abused Him, nailed Him to the cross, and crucified Him, what has anyone done to us that is more than that? He forgave those who killed Him; He forgave us. Let us be like our Lord; let us act like our Lord; let us show His love in our forgiveness as He showed His love. Let us forgive others as the Lord forgave us.

May the Lord bless you to forgive as you’ve been forgiven.
