Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 10/25/15

October 26, 2015

This week’s scripture is from 1 Thessalonians:

Praying Hands2“… pray without ceasing …”     (1 Thess. 5:17)

Jesus prayed and spoke to God day and night. Often He would withdraw to places to pray alone and be with God. His disciples saw His example and came to Him and asked Him to teach them to pray. Prayer is so important that we are told to pray continually in all circumstances. The scriptures say to rejoice and pray, to give thanks to the Lord and pray, to pray when we are happy, to pray when we are troubled, to pray and make our requests to the Lord, to pray when we need forgiveness, to pray when we need healing, to pray when we need to call upon the Lord, to pray when we need to know what to do and to pray when we don’t know what to do. Ideally, praying should be like breathing to those who belong to the Lord. Let us pray.

May the Lord bless you and fill your mouth with prayer and praises.

This week’s scripture is from 1 Corinthians:

Jesus Christ 4“Love never fails.”    (1 Cor. 13:8a)

Love never fails because God is love and God never fails. The love of God will never fail us or forsake us, for God is for us and not against us. The things of this world will fail, and the love in this world is passing, but God’s love is steadfast and sure. It is stronger than life; it is stronger than death. He showed us His love in His son Jesus, for He came that we might know Him and know the love that God has for us, and that we might see that God’s love is even greater than death, for His love brought His son forth from the grave and His love holds the promise of eternal life. There is no love like God’s love and His love for you is the greatest power that exists in all of creation in this life and in the life to come. His love will never fail.

May the love of God bless you this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Matthew:

Warfare Prayer“Lord, I am not worthy …”    (Matthew 8:8)

God is a holy God, and when we think upon the sins and transgressions He has forgiven us, we can feel so unworthy of Him and His love. The truth is we are unworthy of Him and His love, but we should rejoice for Christ is worthy and through His blood, death, and resurrection we receive His righteousness and we are made worthy in Christ.

We need never use our unworthiness to belittle ourselves before the Lord or believe He cannot love us, for He sees us through the blood of His son Jesus Christ and through Him we are redeemed and seen as worthy, worthy to be children of the Most High, worthy to partake in His sacrifice for us, worthy to be His possession, worthy to be loved by Him who loves us. God loves us.

May the love of God for you be a blessing to you.

This week’s scripture is from Hebrews:

Jesus Christ…keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus  (Hebrews 12:2a)

So many things in our life demand our attention. The concerns of the day can easily carry us away from where we should be and what we should be focusing on. Work situations, family issues, worry, financial troubles, illness, relationship problems, even the state of the world can overwhelm our attention and rob us of our peace.

So let us remember to not focus on ourselves, but to look to the One who loves us, for the Lord wants to be the focus of our life. He wants to be and should be the center of our life, for He cares for us, and if we will look to Him first, if we will focus on Him instead, then the other things in our life will fall into proper perspective and we will see Him working all things out for the good of those who love Him.

May the Lord bless you as you keep your eyes fixed upon Jesus.
