Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 02/22/15

This week’s scripture is from John:

Jesus Christ 2“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”  (John 6:68)

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the living Word and His word is eternal. When the concerns and troubles of life are upon us sometimes they distract us from where we should be seeking our healing and relief. Yet He has given us His word, for He is the word, and His word brings life.

Let us not neglect to spend time in the word, for it is good to be in the word; it is valuable for seeking the answers to our problems and dilemmas; it is full of wisdom, and a light in the darkness. The word is powerful to heal and to bind up, to bear witness and to forgive. The word is truth, and that truth brings life, and that truth leads to eternal life.

May the Lord bless you to be in His word this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Luke:

Jesus Christ -- Heinrich Hofmann“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed…”   (Luke 4:18)

Only the Holy One sent by God could claim these words from Isaiah for Himself. Only God’s beloved Son, Jesus Christ, could proclaim this as His ministry on earth, for He is the only one who can heal us from all of our afflictions; He is the only one who can set us free from the captivity of sin and death; He is the only one who can make the blind see, and He is the only one who can free the oppressed from the burdens of this life.

He is the only one anointed of God, a spotless lamb, who could sacrifice Himself, shed His blood, for our salvation. He is the only one who sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for the saints, for only He can heal our brokenness, only He can set us free, for only He loves us everlasting.

May the Lord bless you with the freedom that comes from belonging to Him.

This week’s scripture is from Philippians:

Praying Hands2“Therefore, my dear friends … continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”   (Phil. 2:12-13)

Our salvation is not a once-and-done. Certainly, we came to salvation when we repented of our sins and surrendered to Christ and His lordship, for we became justified before God and heirs of His Kingdom. But salvation is a continuous coming before the Lord; it is a labor of love as was God’s sacrifice of His son Jesus for us.

Salvation is not of works, but it is to remain surrendered to the Lord that He might work His will through us to fulfill His purposes in us and through us to others; it is to be in love and to stay in love with the Lord, to seek His face, to enter into His presence, to lay ourselves before Him, as His very own.

May the Lord bless you each day in working out your salvation.

This week’s scripture is from 1 John:

Jesus Christ 3“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true”    (1 John 5:20a)

Jesus came that we might know Him and the beauty of His grace. Certainly He came that we might receive salvation and be reconciled to God, but He wants us to know Him, as we are known by Him. The Lord wants us not only to believe, He wants us to become disciples.

He knows us and He wants us to know Him as brother and friend, as well as Lord and Savior. To know Him, to be disciples, we must spend time with Him. He has given us His holy word; He has taught us how to pray; He has sent the Holy Spirit to give us understanding. Let us resolve to know Him who is true, who came for us, and who died for us.

May the Lord bless you with a heart that hungers for Him.
