Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 08/24/14

August 25, 2014

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

Jesus Christ risenIn you, Lord my God, I put my trust.   (Psalm 25:1)

Let us remember in whom to put our trust. You need not have lived that long to know that we live in an uncertain world, and we must be careful where we put our trust. We may trust in our job to provide for us yet an unforeseen turn of events can leave us suddenly without. We might trust in someone to be there for us when we need them only to find they are not there when needed most.

We might trust in our good health to sustain us and our strength to keep us strong only to have affliction leave us struggling to hold on. Let us repent of trusting in anyone or anything other than our Lord, for He is the only one that is absolutely, completely trustworthy, the only one who loves us and always wants the best for us.

May the Lord bless you to put your trust wholly in His hands each and every day.

This week’s scripture is from Mark:

Jesus Christ -- Heinrich Hofmann“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”    (Mark 11:24)

Let us remember we need always to pray. When things are good, we should pray; when things are not good we should pray. When the weight of things and the trials of life are hard upon us we sometimes struggle to pray. Yet our Lord is ever-faithful, and what He asks is that we pray in faith believing that He hears our prayers and that He will answer our prayers.

May the Holy Spirit prompt us to look to the Lord in prayer every day, first with thanksgiving, and then in petition stating exactly what we want or need. He knows what we need before we even ask, but He wants us to ask. Let us remember to pray not in fancy or religious words, but directly from our heart, speaking to Him as beloved children speak to their Father.

May the Lord bless you as you pray this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Philippians:

jesus_white“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”    (Phil. 4:13)

Situations arise in our lives which seem to take great strength or great effort in order to do what needs to be done, and we do not always have the strength that is needed. Some tasks seem beyond our ability to handle in the way they need to be done, or sometimes we despair that they are just more than we can do in the time that we have to do them. We see that what lies before us is overwhelming.

Yet whatever the situation we face there is one who is more than able to see us through, for He is never too weary; He is never too weak; He will always provide what is needed to accomplish what needs to be done. If we turn to Christ Jesus for our strength, He will strengthen us; if we ask, He will make it possible to do what we cannot do on our own. Whatever it is that needs doing, He will see to it that you can do it.

May the Lord bless you with His strength as you face each day.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

Jesus Christ 4“May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”   (Psalm 33:22)

We must face each day with courage and hope in our Lord, for where the world is concerned there can only be uncertainty. Where there is peace today there may be war tomorrow; where we may have had a friend we will find an adversary. Even in our own lives trust is a precious thing and hope is often a wish that is not fulfilled.

Depending on the circumstances, our friends, our colleagues, our jobs, our health, even our families may fail us at times. Only the Lord and the Lord alone will not fail us, for He promises never to fail us or forsake us, and He never does, for His love is unfailing; His mercies are new each morning. We can place our hope in Him and He will be true to His word. Trust in His unfailing love.

May the Lord bless you with the faith of His unfailing love for you.
