Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 07/27/14

July 28, 2014

This week’s scripture is from Romans:

Warfare Prayer“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.”   (Romans 4:7)

If we love God we strive to be righteous and to keep from sin. But none are perfect except God alone. Try as we might we often fail to control every thought, every word, and every action. Yet He who loves us wants to forgive our sins and transgressions.

He is a loving Father and we are but little children to Him. He sent His son that we might have redemption through His sacrifice, through the blood He shed for us for the forgiveness of sin. And in this He has richly blessed us, for if we are faithful to repent of our sins and transgressions, He is faithful to forgive us. Praise the Lord for His everlasting love and mercy to us.

May the Lord bless you this day with the forgiveness that only He can give.

This week’s scripture is from 2 Corinthians:

Jesus Christ risen“[We] are being transformed into his image…”   (2 Cor. 3:18)

If we belong to Jesus Christ, if He is our Lord and Savior, we are being made new in Christ, a new creation in Christ. We are to become more and more like Him and less and less as we were when we were unredeemed and lost in sin. Our transition to being a child of God is instantaneous, but this transformation into His image is an ongoing process.

Each day we are to die a bit more to ourselves and become a bit more like Him. The closer we stay to Him the better, for it can be difficult to go through this refining process, everyday to die to self and to live for Christ, but it is His Spirit that leads us, and He is full of grace and mercy. Give yourself into His hands, and be transformed. Let Him make you to be like Christ.

May the blessings of Christ abide with you each day as you give yourself to Him.

This week’s scripture is from Mark:

Lords prayer -- Tissot“…and His disciples followed Him.”   (Mark 6:1b)

Jesus said a disciple is not above his teacher, but is to follow and be like his teacher. If He is loving, then be loving. If He calls for repentance, then call for repentance. What the teacher taught, the disciple is to teach. What the teacher did, the disciple is to do.

Likewise, as the teacher was treated, so the disciple should expect to be treated. If people rejected the teacher’s message, they will reject the disciple’s too. Teach it anyway. If the teacher was persecuted for standing for the truth, the disciple will be persecuted also. Stand for the truth anyway. To follow Him calls for obedience; to be obedient is to join in His suffering, but it also means to join in His joy. Take joy in Him who has called you to follow Him.

May the Lord bless you as you faithfully follow Him.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

Jesus is Risen“I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.”  (Psalm 61:4b)

When our hearts are overwhelmed by the distresses of this life; when the news is not good and that which is bad is rising on tide of evil, there is only one place wherein we can be safe. We try to protect ourselves and our loved ones as best we can, but life is challenging and ever-changing, and sometimes unexpected as it can catch us unawares.

But God is never caught by surprise by any situation in our life. He is always there; He always knows; He is always waiting for us to turn to Him, to come to Him. Only in Him can we be secure; only He can protect us from the enemy of our soul and his attacks against us. If we stay close to the Lord and trust Him, He will shelter us; He will keep us and watch over us in every situation.

May you rest in the shelter of His wings this very day.
