Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 10/27/13

October 28, 2013

This week’s scripture is from 1 Timothy:

Open Bible 2008 rev“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons…”   (1 Tim. 4:1).

If we but look around it is clear that the faith is under attack from without and within. Wolves have moved in against the flock and have scattered or taken many. There has been and continues to be a falling away from the Word, from the very truths that our Lord taught His disciples and from the gospel message that has been at the center of the faith since the Lord returned to the Father. Apostasy has taken hold like a serpent and has poisoned the message. Satan whispers, “Did God really say…?”  Deception has given birth to doubt, and doubt has lead the unwary astray. Speak truth to the lies of the enemy. Set your heel down hard on the serpent’s head. Take up the sword of the Spirit and strike with the Word of God.

May the Lord bless you to stand strong in the faith and to speak the truth.

This week’s scripture is from 2 Corinthians:

Man holding arms up in praise against a sunburst“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  (2 Cor. 5:17)

It matters not who we were before Christ came into our life, for in Christ we are made new. In Christ we are given a new identity. Once we may have been a deceiver, a liar, a cheat, a sinner, like Jacob, but when Christ comes into our life we receive a new identity, a new name; we become one of the Lord’s beloved, a child of God, like Jacob became Israel, a Prince with God. With Christ, with our life committed to Christ, we move from sinner to saint, not that we become perfect, but we become a new being; we become one in the spirit with the Lord. We have a new standing; we become what we were meant to be.

May the Lord bless you to grow in His love and grace each and every day.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

jesus_white“Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”  (Psalm 2:12b)

In this world there is little on which we can always depend, little in which we can trust to be faithful or true, for the foundations of this world are ever shifting and the precepts ever bending to the winds of change. But there is One in whom we can place our trust who does not shift His foundation and who does not change; One who is always faithful and true. The Lord God Almighty is our rock and our salvation. We can trust Him in times of trial and troubles; we can trust in His word to be faithful and true; we can trust that He will be there when we call upon Him, and He will deliver us through His mercy and grace.

May you be blessed as you trust in the Lord each and every day.

This week’s scripture is from 2 Peter:

Open Bible 2008 rev“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them …. (2 Peter 2:1)

We must hold fast to the truth. All those who believe in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ must resist every urging and every temptation to compromise the truth of His word to fit today’s social and politically correct teachings. False teachers do not announce themselves as such but slip in like thieves to steal the truth of God’s word; they arrive subtly and infect sound doctrine with heresies like disease invades the body. What was once healthy and strong becomes quickly compromised with sickness and weakness. Let not the grace and power of His word be tainted, but stay close in the word and tight with the Lord. Let your faith be found only in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May the Lord bless you to be strong in the truth of His word.
