Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 09/01/13

This week’s scripture is from Genesis:

The Siesta -- Van Gogh“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”   (Genesis 2:2)

Most of us lead very busy lives; between work and family there is often little time for the other things we try to fit into our days. Many work long hours and even then we struggle to keep up with all the work we have to do. The more we get done the more we seem to get assigned at times; the more conscientious we tend to be with our work, the more time we spend doing it. Too often we are somewhere between tired and exhausted. But this is not where the Lord wants us to be. He actually orders us to rest from our work each week as He rested from His after finishing the work of creation. Taking a Sabbath day’s rest is not a suggestion; it’s a commandment. Resting is a spiritual act; we need rest. So rest and be at peace.

May the Lord bless you with the obedience to rest and be refreshed each week.
