Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 06/23/13

June 24, 2013

This week’s scripture is from Colossians:

Jesus is Risen“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”   (Colossians 2:15)

In the world today, there seems to be a rising tide of sin and evil, but regardless of the attacks of the enemy against us or our families, regardless of the trials and troubles in our lives, regardless of the battles we are forced to wage against these things, let us never forget that the devil is already defeated. The fight between good and evil, between God and Satan, is not in doubt. Jesus has already won, and  won completely and decisively. When Christ went willingly to the cross where He suffered, bled, and died for us, then rose again from the grave, He destroyed the works of darkness; He declared victory over sin, evil, and death, once and for all. Jesus is King, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Savior. It is finished; He triumphed.

May the joy of the risen Lord be your strength this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Hebrews:

Jesus Christ 4“Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds…”   (Hebrews 10:23-24)

Ours is a living hope, a hope assured by faith in Jesus Christ. Our hope lies in God’s faithfulness; our hope lies in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We can hold fast our confession of hope and never doubt because God is completely faithful, completely trustworthy. His promises never fail; His word is always true. Let us therefore spur each other to exhibit Christ’s love, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to love each other as He loved us, to shed His love abroad into the world through His word, to do deeds of righteousness for His namesake, to show His love by what we do for each other and for others.

May the Lord bless you with the assurance of His love and faithfulness.

This week’s scripture is from 1 Kings:

Fountain-House-of-Prayer2“… and after the fire a still small voice.”  (1 Kings 19:12b)

Much of our lives are filled with noise and the busyness of everyday life from the time we awake until we sleep again. It is difficult to hear God above the clash and hubbub of everything going on around us. Some days we can barely keep up. We might wonder where God is in the hectic pace of our daily lives. Yet He is there. He is there and He is waiting. He is waiting for us to slow down; He is waiting for us to pause, to stop long enough to listen, to hear that still small voice when He speaks to us. It does us no good to be rushing around so much that we cannot hear God’s voice. He will speak to us if we will be still long enough to really listen. Take time to wait upon the Lord today and hear what He has to say to you.

May the Lord bless you to be still and listen to Him this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Colossians:

Praying Hands2“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving…”    (Colossians 4:2)

We serve a mighty God; mighty is His name; mighty is His name in prayer. Pray in the name of the Lord; pray in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son. Pray in believing; pray in faith; pray in fervent resolve; pray with thanksgiving. If anyone is sick, pray for them for God heals; if anyone is lost, pray for their salvation for God saves; if anyone is in need, pray that the need be fulfilled for God provides; if anyone is in sorrow, pray for comforting for God brings peace; if anyone is in trouble, pray for resolution for God can make a way. Be steadfast in prayer. Let no situation pass by that does not receive prayer. Pray and keep praying.

May the Lord bless you to be faithful to pray and persistent in prayer.
