Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 04/28/13

April 29, 2013

This week’s scripture is from Joshua:

Jesus Christ risen“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth…”   (Joshua 24:14)

In our time there is tremendous social pressure to compromise the Word of God to fit the prevailing moral fashion of the age, to accept what should not be accepted, to tolerate what should not be tolerated, to turn from the truth of God to the lies of the devil. On the surface this seems to be a social and cultural battle, but do not be fooled. It is the forces of darkness forcing their way onto the world stage, no longer staying hidden in the dark recesses of humanity, but boldly challenging God’s people and God’s truth. Do not bow before this onslaught. Fear God and shun evil. Do not compromise the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Stand firm and resolute in the admonition of His grace; and speak the Word in love and in truth.

May the Lord bless you to stand strong in the truth of His Word.

This week’s scripture is from Joshua:

Jesus Christ 4“I will not leave you nor forsake you.”  (Joshua 1:5b)

The Lord does not abandon us. When we suffer sickness or loss, when failure or sin trouble our lives, God does not forsake us. When Satan comes hard against us like a hammer blow, when his assault is relentless, dragging on and on, when the days become weeks and the weeks become months, when our strength is spent and our faith is severely tested, the Lord is still there. He never leaves or forsakes us; even if He is silent, He is still there. In the face of hardships and troubles we need to stand our ground, for it is not our strength that brings the victory. The Lord is our strength; press into the Lord; pray and praise the Lord. Let us proclaim that our strength is found in our Lord, for He is ever with us, and ever faithful.

May the Lord bless you with the assurance that He is ever with you and never leaves you.

This week’s scripture is from Ephesians:

Jesus Christ 10“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”    (Ephesians 6:10)

In these days Satan continually seeks to hurt, destroy, kill, and devour. He hates all God’s creation, but especially God’s children. All that belong to God, all who call Him Lord and Savior, all who seek to follow His ways enrage the evil one. As his time grows short his wrath increases, but the Lord says fear not. We are not weak but strong in the Lord. Let us stand up in the power and might of the Lord and defy the enemy of our soul with the Word of the One whom we believe in and in whom we trust. For the Word says that Jesus Christ is Lord, and there is no other, for at His name every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, so stand on the mighty Word of God, pray, believe, and Satan will flee.

May the Lord bless you with His strength to resist and overcome the evil one as sons and daughters of the Most High God.

This week’s scripture is from Matthew:

Jesus feeds five thousand BWWhen it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”

But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”   (Matthew 14:15-17)

As you mature in Christ, times will come when Jesus will ask you to do what only He can do. Jesus knew his disciples could not feed five thousand people. We have no supernatural powers or ability, but the God we serve does. When He asks what seems impossible it is meant to bless us, and often to bless others, for the Lord does not ask us for what we cannot do, He asks us to do what we can do, to have faith, to pray, to praise, and to believe, in every circumstance regardless how difficult the situation, and when we exercise faith, He is faithful to provide for every need, for He longs to pour out His riches and blessings on those who will come in faith, praising and believing, doing good even when things seem impossible to us.

May your prayers and praises rise to the Lord and your faith be pleasing to Him.

Happy Easter!  This week’s scripture is from Matthew:  Jesus is Risen

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, [just] as He said.”     (Matthew 28:5-6)

He is risen, He is risen, He is risen! Thank God, thank God, thank God Almighty. Jesus Christ is risen; He is alive. He sacrificed Himself that we might be reconciled to God our Father, that we might know Him and the mercy of His grace, for He is the bread of life, the Holy One, the Son of God; He sealed the new covenant in His blood that we might have the forgiveness of our sins, that we might have salvation and eternal life. Thank you Lord Jesus. How blessed we are to know His love and the beauty of His grace.

May the blessings of the Lord’s sacrifice strengthen you as you follow in His ways.
