Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 01/27/13

January 28, 2013

This week’s scripture is from Proverbs:

Lords prayer -- Tissot“Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways…”
 (Proverbs 7:24-25a)

We strive to follow the Lord each day for we are His children; we love the Lord for He sacrificed Himself for us that we might have salvation in His name, that we might be redeemed unto eternal life. We read and study the scriptures, and we pray. Yet the Lord calls upon us not to strive, but to listen. He does not call us to be busy, but to listen, to hear Him. Do we listen when we read His word? Do we only speak or do we listen when we pray?  To hear Him we must be still. Quiet yourself in His presence, and listen. Don’t follow the dictates of your heart but follow His. Lean not on your thoughts. Listen to Him.

May the Lord bless you as you take the time to listen to Him, to hear His heart for you.

This week’s scripture is from Matthew:

Man holding arms up in praise against a sunburst“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”    (Matthew 6:33a)

Everyday seems to have its troubles and challenges, the trials of work and dealing with busy lives; the things that try to overwhelm us or get beyond us keep cropping up; we are harried and hurried; we long for peace and rest; weariness overtakes us. Yet we were never meant to take on this life on our own, for we are children of the Most High God. We are not meant to tackle life alone, but we charge forth in our own strength against the giants of life, too often seeking Him only when we have no strength left, yet His word says to seek Him first. O Lord, let us learn to always seek you first, in every circumstance.

May you ever remember before anything else to seek the Lord first each day.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

Old Man Praying“I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.”
 (Psalm 16:7)

In this new year let us remember to seek fellowship with the Lord, to come to that quiet place of the heart where we can commune with Him and hear His voice, for He is also Counselor; He is ever faithful and His counsel is always true. Let us now rededicate ourselves to seeking the counsel of the Lord in our lives, for our lives; let us not fail to fellowship with Him who loves us and is true, who speaks to us in the hour of joy and in the hour of need. Come into fellowship with the Lord and let Him have fellowship with you. Praise Him and bless His holy name. Listen to His heart. Come into His presence and be still.

This week’s scripture is from John:

Bible - John“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men”  (John 1:1-4).

Let us remember that everything begins with the Lord, for He is the living Word. He spoke and worlds came into existence; He spoke and light came against darkness; He spoke and life began; He spoke and man became a living being; He spoke and His son came that we might know Him and know salvation in His name. There is no separation between speaking a word and the fulfillment of the word with God; whatever He speaks happens, whenever He sets it to happen. Since the beginning, Our Lord Jesus Christ has been the light of life and He remains our light in the darkness. Praise God for sending the light.

As this new year begins, may the Lord bless your life through his living Word, Jesus Christ.
