Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 10/28/12

October 29, 2012

This week’s scripture is from Deuteronomy:

“Surely the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire.”    (Deut. 5:24)

Our God is an awesome God; the heavens declare His glory; the Earth displays the splendor of His creation. How majestic is His name in all the Earth; how magnificent is His reign; how miraculous is His love, beyond all understanding. At His Word the world appeared; at His Word life appeared; at His Word truth and salvation came to us in Jesus Christ. To God belongs the glory; great things He has done, and around the throne of God the angels sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.” Glory to God in the Highest; Glory to God in the Highest. He is an awesome God.

May the glory of God fill your heart with praise and worship each day.

This week’s scripture is from Isaiah:

“See, I have refined you, though not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.”
   (Isaiah 48:10)

It is seldom pleasant to be disciplined or to go through affliction, yet many of us have suffered at times with various afflictions used to discipline us, to bring us closer to the Lord, to separate us from sinful behavior or train us to bear fruit, to be more in line with the person He created us to be. We might wish to be spared such trials or discomfort, yet we should not be discouraged or disappointed for the scriptures tell us that God tests those He loves. The fires are not meant to destroy us, but to refine us into shining examples of His love, that we might shine forth as dearly loved disciples speaking truth into a dying world.

May the Lord’s loving hand bring you forth shining in His glory.

This week’s scripture is from 1 Timothy:

“…godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”      (1 Tim. 4:8b,16)

Our ways are not God’s ways, but we know that His way leads to life abundant and life eternal. This present age is a great challenge, for godlessness is spreading, goodness is waning, the attacks of the enemy increase, truth is viewed with contempt, persecution is growing as darkness is rising up. The people know not where to turn. Yet we know, for the Lord tells us to persevere, to rise up and stand, to pray, to read aloud the word, to be godly, to preach the good news, to speak truth into a dying world, for the light of Christ destroys darkness. Let us repent; let us stay true to the Word, and let us live in the truth of Christ Jesus.

May the Lord bless you to persevere until the end, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

This week’s scripture is from Exodus:

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”     (Exodus 3:14)

We serve an awesome God. The Lord God Almighty declares himself, “I AM,” and there is no other, for  He is the quintessential being of the universe, of all existence, the be-all and end-all of everything, the alpha and omega. There is none before Him or after Him or even like Him, for He is Elohim, El-Shaddai, Yahweh, Adonai, Abba, Everlasting Father, Ancient of Days, the Holy One. Who can fathom how great, how mighty, how magnificent He is? Yet He calls us His children; we are dear to Him. He calls us to come alongside Him, to serve, to give the Good News, to bless, to love. O Praise the Lord; praise His Holy name.

May the God of heaven and earth and all the universe bless you this very day.

This week’s scripture is from Romans:

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…”     (Romans 3:23-24)

How great is God’s grace toward us; He forgives us our sins, our trespasses, our short-comings, our failures, our disobedience. Try as we do, who can remain sinless before the Lord? We cannot stop every idle or harsh word, hold back every errant thought, withdraw every careless action, refrain from every rebellious act, without Him. We fail at perfection; we fail at righteousness; we fail at holiness, but the One who is holy, the One who is righteous, the One who is perfect extends His grace to us that we might have forgiveness, that we might have redemption in His sacrifice for us — freely given — through His grace. Praise God for His surpassing love and grace in Christ Jesus.

May God Almighty bless you and be gracious unto you through our Lord Jesus Christ.
