Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 03/27/11

March 28, 2011

This week’s scripture is from John:

Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”    (John 8:31b-32)

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.     (John 8:36)

Free. Free. Free. How good it is to be free in Christ, to know the freedom that comes with being a child of God, to know that your sins are forgiven and you have the promise of eternal life with Him. He came full of grace and truth, and that truth sets us free. In this world there are chains, but Jesus, the very Son of God, came, suffered, died, and rose again that we might know Him and the power of His love. We are His disciples, believers in His gospel, followers of His word, travelers in the Way, children of His mercy and grace, captives set free. What a blessing! Let us not fail to follow His teachings, to act on His word, to share the gospel, and to love as He has loved us.

May you remain in Jesus Christ, and may the truth of the Word continue to set you free.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

“The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
  (Psalm 9:9-10)

Whatever comes against us, the Lord is greater. We hear of earthquakes and floods and desolation; we hear of wars and rumors of war, clash of nations, spreading across the globe like fire in grass. Our hearts might grow heavy within us, for yesterday left destruction and tomorrow is uncertain, yet in times of trouble we have one whom we can trust, for the Lord is with us, the Rock of Ages is there for us, and He never leaves us or forsakes us. We can trust in Him and call upon His name, for His name is the name above all names, and in His name we can trust. Seek Him and call upon His name, for He is faithful and true. He will not forsake those who belong to Him.

May the Lord be your refuge and your strength as you seek His face this day and every day.

This week’s scripture is from Ephesians:

“…pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”   (Ephesians 6:18)

Pray and call out to God. Jesus prayed continually, sometimes all night; He instructed his disciples to pray, and to keep praying. He prayed for them, and He prayed for us. He told them that His house was a house of prayer, and the faithful are to always be fervent in prayer. Every spiritual battle is won in prayer; every soul won is won through prayer. Prayer and praise are mighty to save, so pray, pray in the Spirit, and pour out your heart to God. He who is faithful will not forsake the prayers of a righteous servant.

May prayer be on your lips each day, in every circumstance, and the blessings of the Lord be upon you.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

“We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.”
   (Psalm 33:20-21)

When life comes hard against us, and our hearts are breaking, crying out for relief, there is one who is holy and true, in whom we can trust, and his name is Lord of Lords. In Him we have our hope and our being, and our hope is not some wishful longing, but it is the assurance of Jesus Christ that He is our salvation and our shield. He sits at the right hand of the Father ever making intercession for the saints, and His words are true and righteous, life-giving and eternal. In Him we can wait; in Him we can trust, for He will not withhold his blessings from those who belong to Him. Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord Jesus.

May your heart be open to trust in the Lord and wait in hope for his blessings.
