Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 10/24/10

This week’s scripture is from John:

“He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”        (John 10:3b-4,10)

It is our Lord Jesus Christ who calls us; He calls each of us by name. Notice He does not drive us out from behind; He leads us out. We are not to be in front; we are to listen to His voice and then follow Him. It is when we lose sight of Him that we get lost or lose the path or stubble into danger. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus. If we are not in the Lord’s safe keeping, then we are susceptible to the enemy who comes but to destroy. Thank God we have Jesus, our Savior, who came to give us life and life abundant.

May the Lord bless you to hear His voice, to follow Him, and to live life in His fullness.

This week’s scripture comes from Matthew:

“At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of [heaven], with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”    (Matt.24:30-31)

We have all faced difficult days and will likely face more, especially if we are proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ, for the nations despise the Holy One of God and persecute His followers. But there is a day coming, a great day, when Christ will return, leading the armies of Heaven, when all else will be laid low and He will have His beloved gathered from one end of creation to the other to be caught up with Him. Hallelujah, Lord!  O glorious day!  O Blessed Hope!  O mighty Savior!  Come, Lord Jesus, come!

May the Lord bless you this day and each day until He comes on that last day.

This week’s scripture is from James:

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”     (James 4:7-8a)

It often seems that the devil is on the prowl, constantly causing us grief and problems, and even when we might not be under direct attack we are daily set upon by sin and the troubles of the world and work. In this life we cannot escape them but momentarily. Too many of us have a habit we were raised with that taught us to take on our troubles and fight them. Yet we cannot stand against them alone.

We must remember that there is one who fights for us. He does not draw away from us; we get drawn away from Him. We need to remember to always turn to Him first. Christ is our champion; He has already defeated the devil. We need to get ourselves on our knees before the throne and call on His name, for He is faithful and true. He bears the sword of truth; He is our shield and our rampart; His mercy and grace attend us. Rejoice, call on His Holy name; submit yourself into His care and into His keeping.

May the Lord richly bless you this day and each day as you spend time with Him and draw near.

This week’s scripture is from Philippians:

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.”       (Phil. 4:19-20)

It is good to remember that no matter what we need in life, whether that need is spiritual or physical, God Almighty will give us whatever we need through Jesus Christ. If we need provisions, we can call upon His name; if we need healing, we can call upon His name; if we need His spirit to touch us in any way, we can call upon the Lord and He will provide. Our Lord’s grace and His storehouse are never empty, and He wants to fulfill our every need. All we must do is call upon His name and He is there. Call upon the Lord and He will bless you in Christ Jesus this very day.

May the Lord’s love and mercy flow to you as you call upon His name with thanksgiving and praise.
