Strengthen and Encourage the Brethren 09/26/10

This week’s scripture is from Ephesians:

“…to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.”       (Ephesians 1:6-8)

Who of us is beyond failure, or at least at times feels like a failure? The Lord says to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect, to be holy as He is holy, yet we are not perfect and unrighteousness still plagues us. We pray that the Lord strengthen us and lead us into righteousness, yet sin crouches around us waiting for an opportune moment, a slip of the tongue or an action done not with God’s love. How unworthy we are to carry His name; yet because of His Son, Jesus Christ, we can know His forgiveness and His grace. We can, imperfect as we are, tell others of His unmatchable love and mercy, and share the good news: He came not to condemn, but that we might be saved. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord.

May the Lord bless you with his forgiveness, mercy, and grace in Jesus Christ this day and each day.

This week’s scripture is from John:

“A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.”   (John 3:27a)

John the Baptist well understood his place in God’s plan. How often has it occurred to us that we might be more effective if we had a certain gift or provision? Or if only this or that was different our ministry would be so much better. Ministry is important, but God, our Father, is most interested in our relationship with Him. He knows the yearnings of our heart, but He also knows his plans for us and for His kingdom. We can only receive what He means for us to have, what is right for us. This is His will for us in Christ Jesus. Let us receive what He has given with joy, thanksgiving, and praise.

May the Lord bless you with His grace and mercy as you minister according to His will.

This week’s scripture is from Psalms:

“This is the day the LORD has made;
         Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
   (Psalm 118:24)

We do not know what each day may hold, what challenges may come before us, what trials or blessings, but we do know that each day is a day that God has ordained and each one a gift. Each is in the Lord’s hands, and with each one we are closer to that day of days when Jesus returns. What a glorious hope we have. “Let us rejoice and be glad…”

May the Lord bless you this day and each day, and may praises pour from your lips.

This week’s scripture is from Romans:

“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”

“So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am!  Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!”    (Romans 7:15, 21-25)

How impossible it is to be always righteous in every situation, to maintain righteous thoughts, to keep a pure heart, to act righteously in all circumstances. How imperfect we are and how frustrating that is. Unrighteousness and sin plague us. Thank God we have a righteous King who is perfect and who made a perfect sacrifice for us, who forgives us of all unrighteousness and sin, who sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. We are powerless against sin, but He has overcome, and the blood of Christ Jesus washes us clean. O thank you, Lord.

May the Lord bless you; may Christ’s blood cover you, and may praise be upon your lips.
